MENTORING LEADS TO LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS
After Jim’s dad passed away and his older siblings had moved out, his mom got him involved
with Big Brothers. His Big Brother Jerry, a local barber with three daughters, was excited to say
he was going to get a boy. “When I first met Jimmy I knew we were going to click. He was like the
boy – the son – I never had,” says Jerry.
Jim felt safe knowing Jerry was always there for him, that he could talk about anything with
him and enjoyed doing things he never would have done without a Big Brother. “I had a great
role model… and to this day we are still as close as we were 48 years ago,” says Jim.
Although our look has recently changed, the needs of our youth have not. Will you join us in
giving more children in our community the gift of a Big Brother or Big Sister, a friend for life
like Jim and Jerry?
